Apparently this is not a real quote:
I wish this would stop getting passed around, since it’s not true at all, seeing as Nagini is not a boa constrictor.
This is a fake quote. Nagini was a python, the snake Harry set free was a Boa Constrictor.
In fact, there are quite a few reasons why this is wrong.
The first being that the one he released was bred in captivity.
The second being that the one he released was male, Nagini is female.
The third being the fact that he release a constrictor, whereas Nagini is extremely poisonous, as demonstrated how she bites Arthur Weasly in the fifth book.
Just a tumblr rumor that got out of control.
When I first saw this, I immediately wanted to disprove it because of what the movies said (the boa in the tank was a boy and Nagini is a python), but then I did some research through the books, and it is possible. First, she never said what kind of snake Nagini was. Second, she never said the snake in the tank’s voice was male in the book. On to the point about the venom, she may have acquired it from the fact that she is a Horcrux, and that’s an effect it had (like the locket making you bitter all the time). However, those are a lot of maybe’s, I’m just saying it’s a possibility. Or she may just be a snake from the magical world that has nothing to do with our Muggle boas and pythons.
